Why is my cat overly affectionate

Cuddling and petting our pets can be soothing and stress reducing for many people. It is a great way to strengthen the human animal bond. It is normal for social animals to exhibit behaviors that maintain social contact, but can too much petting and attention be harmful? It depends on the individual pet, owner and situation.

In general, giving our pets attention is not harmful and is a great way to bond with our pets. However, keep in mind that some pets do not want a lot of physical attention, just like some people are not huggers or snugglers. For a pet with an underlying anxiety disorder that forms a strong attachment to the owner, they may be in heaven when the owner can give them a lot of individualized attention, but that attention can sometimes backfire.

The intensity of these behaviors can range from mild signs, such as barking for five to ten minutes after the owners leave, to severe signs, such as chewing a hole in the wall of the house to escape, jumping out of windows, pulling out teeth or nails or even breaking their jaw. Dogs with these disorders have a difficult time understanding why their owners would be holding and petting them one moment, gone the next, then back at home showering them with attention.

If you or other family members cant put up with it, there are some behavioral tricks you can try. Are you constantly tripping over your cat as he follows or precedes you everywhere you go? Be careful at night, says Dr. If you get up at night, make sure you have ample light to see your cat if he is going to be around your feet. Dont let an annoying habit turn into an accident. The first thing to try is gently putting your cat down on the floor each time she jumps up on you, the computer keyboard or your office paperwork.

After several times, she may get the idea. If shes more persistent, then try doing something the cat doesnt like while shes bothering you. These days, some people hardly relax at home.

Theyre up and about all the time, trying to get things done. Cats want to be near or on you for attention. If youre not giving your cat enough attention, your cat will seek it when she sees her only chance when youre sitting down. Instead of trying to get away from your cat during these times of attention-seeking, give him what he wants: your attention.

Giving him some every day may curb his attempts to corner you. Another thing that helps is interacting with your cat at other times. Bored, inactive cats are more likely to be clingy. Cats enjoy motion and they especially like when you play with them. Ensure your kitten gets all of the essential preventative veterinary care like vaccinations and de-worming and keep them on a healthy diet so they always feel their best and act their best.

Are you eager to learn more about the best way to care for your kittens? However, following these 6 tips can help you train your kitten to enjoy human contact, be less anxious around noises and unfamiliar objects, and generally grow into a well-socialised cat: 1. Thanks for this terrific hub, Amy. This is so helpful for me to understand my two cats, esp. Voted up! There's some great information I have no idea why it was written as a four year old My cat drops things in his food bowl all the time.

I have seen him playing with the qtip, drop it in his dish and then start eating-like he suddenly realized he was hungry after all that playing. He likes to drop things in my shoes and then fish them out. This all sounds nice, but most of it is nonsense. A cat does not give you a present by leaving a dead mouse or bird.

Cats' meows cannot be interpreted in such a simple manner. Licking of their lips can also display annoyance. This is over-simplifying cat behaviour and anthropomorphising them whilst pretending to be science.

This is a fantastic article! I thought that "Q-tip in the water" was very interesting, and I wouldn't put it past a cat to communicate that way.

I think cats are a lot smarter than we give them credit for! My cat go Crazzy All the timee :D its so interesting!! Now i understandd why alreadyy :3 Thankieww!

With my cats the 'cat crazies' closely followed a trip to the litter box.. Almost like the weight loss made them jet propelled I really enjoyed reading this hub. I then read it to my husband who also agreed that it does explain some of our cats behaviors, expecially the blinking. What a great hub!!! I remember as a boy we had a black cat called Sasha that used to come down to my room in the basement at night and curl up on one side of my bed I've always had an extreme fondness for animals, but cats in particular.

It was only mildly surprising to find out one of my animal guides was a huge black cat, although the last time I saw him. It was great to see a hub with some good information on communication with cats. Yes, I definitely learned a few things so thank you.

The cat crazies probably comes after the 18 hour catnap LOL Of my 6 cats, they all get the crazies at one time or another. Great Hub! Health Problems. Freshwater Pets. Freshwater Aquariums. I love it! Great to see you! Can we eat now? Anger or pain. Also the sound of an unspayed cat in heat. The sound a mother cat makes to her kittens. Give me a pet! Here, let me help by rubbing my scent glands on you. Please pet me. You're MY human! Or maybe it's just dark in here! I might even pounce. Related Articles. By justmesuzanne. By Darla Sue Dollman.
