Which links are the same
But OoX is another one that comes after but before 1 and 2. So it can change. User Info: Bytewolf. I've seen this topic arise all over the net.
And I keep seeing people regurgitate the same misinformation constantly. So I'm going to clarify here. Everyone and and their grandmother says these are all the same Link because some source that they refuse to actually quote said so. Well, first of all this all seems to come from some statement Miyamoto said fairly offhandedly when he was still going with the idea that the first 4 games happened chronologically in the order they were released.
This game and it's story are super non-cannon and should be ignored. Third, "because Hyrule Historia says so. What page exactly? None, actually. I've read it cover to cover and it doesn't imply anything of the sort, let alone state it outright. It only says that the Link in OoX has defeated Ganon before. Actually, I should point out that this is very similar to how it BotW takes place in a world that has battled Ganon many times.
That statement is actually self contained withing the game's Narrative and provides no clue to timeline placement at all. Further, I have to mention the ten thousand pound elephant in the room everyone seems to like to forget. Because in oracle of ages an addition timeline break happened, by going into the past, he receded the events of link to the past therefore the timeline split where Zelda remembers him or doesn't.
User Info: SilentSnore. PhoenixML posted Thankfully, the Hyrule Encylopedia has a very explicit page on which Links are from what games. The average Link gets to go on, at most, two adventures. While some Links only ever get their one adventure, one, in particular, has made a career of exploring the world and liberating overrun countries: the Legendary Hero.
Said Link has killed not sealed or defeated Ganon twice, one of whom had the full Triforce at his disposal. On top of that, he also wielded a fully tempered Master Sword. However, his approach to the pickle in which he finds himself seems out of character, so he warrants another entry. In fact, all Link does in this game is challenge a witch who cursed Princess Style to wear an ugly jumpsuit.
That's right: Zelda isn't even in the game at all. But the game and its multiplayer focus did come out of her participation in Spirit Tracks.
Though this Link might hold his own against Stacey London or Anna Wintour, he isn't going to take Ganon down with scathing fashion critiques. The Hyrule Warriors game have not been considered canon until this point.
However, Age of Calamity has been said to be a direct tie-in to Breath of the Wild. So perhaps the Link seen in the game can be considered a version of the Hylian Hero, as well.
By design, the hack and slash game makes Link feel ultra-powerful. He easily chops through enemies and wields a few different weapons to boot. Despite the question of his canon veracity, this Link can definitely dish out damage when the occasion requires it. The Legend of Zelda television show was not the most canonically accurate of representations. It is perhaps most infamous for Link's childish gripe "Well, excuuuse me, Princess!
The American conceived show also has a running motif of Link trying to get Zelda to kiss him. This, paired with Ganon's apparent haplessness, renders this Link quite lackluster. This entry might be a bit controversial, but it still fits the brief. Like the Hero of Winds, the Hero of Lorule likewise goes from a great game to a downright dreadful one. Unlike Phantom Hourglass , however, Tri Force Heroes actually is the worst mainline Zelda game, and by a country mile too.
Which is a shame since A Link Between Worlds is such a good game and this Link is genuinely quite interesting. Unlike other Links, though, his design is inconsistent between games. It makes sense Nintendo would want to follow up Breath of the Wild right away, and an immediate narrative sequel is the right call.
